National Space Day is celebrated on August 23rd in memory of the successful soft landing of Chandrayaan-3 on the Moon in 2023. The Vikram lander of Chandrayaan-3 achieved a controlled soft landing on the lunar surface on August 23, 2023, making India the first country to achieve a soft landing near the Moon's south polar region. Subsequently, the Pragyan rover was deployed to conduct scientific experiments and collect data.

The third celebration of National Space Day took place in Ahmedabad on Sunday. Attendees included Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Gujarat Cabinet Minister Arjun Modhwadia, ISRO Chairman V. Narayanan, and IN-SPACe Chairman Pawan Goenka, according to ANI. Narayanan recalled the early years of India's space program, highlighting the country's progress in this field.

The ISRO Chairman also stated that Chandrayaan-3 provided scientific data accessible to researchers worldwide. Narayanan mentioned that besides the soft landing, the mission brought numerous scientific findings. He also noted that one of the main achievements of Chandrayaan-3 was the inspiration it provided to 140 crore Indians across the globe.
