The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has intensified its oversight of companies by adopting a strict stance against misleading advertising, false claims, and incorrect labeling. As part of this campaign, notifications were issued to over 150 enterprises.
Among the companies that received notifications are Nestle India, Red Bull India, Monster Energy, Flipkart Minutes, and Amazon Now. FSSAI is currently paying special attention to products sold as energy drinks, conducting checks for unfair practices.
Companies that were sent warnings include PepsiCo, Red Bull India, Monster Energy, Hell Energy, Diageo, and Pernod Ricard. Previously, FSSAI had already issued notifications to six major companies regarding branding and false claims associated with products sold as 'energy drinks.' The allegations concern discrepancies between packaging, labeling, and advertising materials and food safety regulations.
Furthermore, some products violating sanitary standards were seized as a result of inspections. Flipkart Minutes and Amazon Now each received twelve notifications, and the license of one of Amazon's warehouses was revoked. Additionally, five Domino's licenses were suspended.
A discrepancy in the labeling of 58 imported goods was discovered, which served as the basis for issuing notifications. FSSAI also sent complaints to several food service establishments, such as Domino's, KFC, Pizza Hut, and Costa Coffee, due to labeling errors. Moreover, companies received notifications for providing incorrect information about product calorie content.
FSSAI's activities are not limited to energy brands and food service outlets; notifications were also sent to hotel complexes, including Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt, Radisson, Four Seasons, and Shangri-La.
