Following his long-awaited debut with Orlando Pirates, Sebastian Pedersen convinced coach Obdeslam Wadd of his ability to contribute to the team's success, as he possesses the characteristics of a striker suitable for the club's system.
Pedersen made his first appearance and participated in the Pirates match, which ended in a 1–0 victory over Sekhukhune United. This match took place in the first semi-final at the Old Peter Mokaba stadium on Saturday evening.
Although the 27-year-old player could have scored later in the game, he missed his chance by shooting the ball into the stands, but he demonstrated promising runs both during and outside of the game.
Wadd was impressed by the Norwegian's impact on the game, as Pedersen is capable of turning moments into goals and relieving some pressure from the team's main scorer, Yaneli Mbuthumu, who has recently been unable to score.
Comments on the Debut
On social media, users shared their opinions on Pedersen's debut; for example, one noted: "I am not a Pirates fan, but I see a good striker from afar."
During the post-match press conference, Wadd stated: "He is smart. He gets into the space where we want him to be. He knows how to fight. We can find him in zones. His technical quality is also very interesting. I am confident that he will truly help the team."
Despite Wadd emphasizing in recent weeks that Pedersen had not received opportunities due to his level of form, he expects the player to adapt quickly and start showing results in the PSL top division, which is one of the world's most competitive leagues.
When asked whether it was appropriate to field Pedersen on a small pitch against one of the league's most compact and disciplined teams, Wadd replied: "Every league has its own specifics." He added that one cannot assume the game will be easy just because the player comes from Europe. He concluded: "The PSL is a good environment. There is speed, influence, and organized speed. The level is high. I am confident that he will integrate quickly."
