Bowlers dominated the Test match between Australia and Bangladesh. Young fast bowler from Bangladesh, Shoriful Islam, achieved a historic feat by taking seven wickets for 48 runs conceded, which helped restrict Australia's first innings to 210 runs. Despite Bangladesh itself being bowled out for only 64 runs in the first innings, the team managed to prevent an overwhelming advantage for Australia thanks to the bowlers' performance. As a result, the Australian team gained an advantage of 146 runs after the first innings.
In the first innings against Australia, Shoriful Islam took 7 wickets while conceding 48 runs. This performance is the best by any Bangladeshi bowler in a Test match against Australia. Previously, this record belonged to Hasan Mahmud, who took six wickets for 55 runs in the first Test in Darwin. Furthermore, Shoriful Islam became the Bangladeshi bowler to achieve the best figures in a Test match away from home. He broke the record of Taizul Islam, who took seven wickets for 138 runs against Zimbabwe this year.
Shoriful Islam's performance was particularly significant because the last similar outstanding performance by a visiting fast bowler on Australian soil was recorded in 1993. At that time, the great West Indian fast bowler Curtly Ambrose took seven wickets for 25 runs against the Australian team.
The game continued on the second day, and Australia reached a score of 165/8. The team had only two batsmen left, but the lower order players created serious problems for Bangladesh. The hosts added another 45 runs in 12.3 overs, bringing their total to 210. Shoriful Islam took his seventh wicket, dismissing Cameron Green for LBW, who was scoring 67 runs. Islam's yorkers proved insurmountable for Green. Green scored 10 fours in his innings of 105 balls. After this, Taizul Islam concluded the Australian innings, getting rid of Josh Hazlewood (6 runs). Nathan Lyon remained not out, having scored 32 runs. Lyon and Hazlewood added 24 runs with the last wicket.
At one point, Australia was in a difficult position with a score of 41/3. However, Steve Smith and Cameron Green managed to stabilize the innings, adding 77 runs for the fourth wicket. Smith scored 42 runs off 74 balls, including six fours, while Green continued his fight, scoring a half-century. Nevertheless, Shoriful Islam's consistent wicket-taking prevented Australia from gaining a large lead.
Bangladesh's start to the second innings was also unsuccessful after trailing by 146 runs. Mitchell Starc dismissed Shadman Islam and Momindu Haka in two balls in the third over. Shadman managed to score one run, and Momindu could not even start the innings. Then Pat Cummins got Tanzid Hasan Tamim out when he had scored 9 runs.
