US AI Companies Lower Prices for Large Language Models Due to Increased Competition

Competition in the market for large artificial intelligence (AI) models is intensifying, prompting several American AI companies to lower the cost of their models.

On August 21, OpenAI announced a price reduction for the base version of the GPT-5.6 Sol model, which is an advanced AI model for developers. The reduction was over 20% and took effect immediately; the discount will be valid for three months.

At the end of the previous month, the same company also adjusted prices for its other models: the mid-range segment was reduced by 20%, and lower-tier models were reduced by 80%.

In parallel, Google, part of Alphabet, introduced Gemini 3.7 Flash and lowered its price to about half the cost of the previous version.

Some American media outlets note that the battle over pricing for large AI models is becoming increasingly fierce, with the pricing and open-source strategies of some Chinese AI companies putting pressure on their American competitors.
