Center introduces restrictions on the sale of combined cold medicines for children under four due to safety concerns

Parents of children under four must now exercise greater caution when using combination medications to relieve cold symptoms. Central authorities have imposed restrictions on the production, sale, and distribution of all fixed-dose combinations (FDCs) containing chlorphenamine maleate and phenylephrine hydrochloride.

These restrictions were initially introduced by the Center in April 2025. Later, in February 2026, DTAB reviewed the issue again and agreed to extend the ban on all prescription forms.
