According to the official page of the Catholic radio station Sol Mansi on social media, which Lusa reviewed, the Portuguese ambassador to Guinea-Bissau stated that this initiative is part of Portuguese solidarity and cooperation with the Guinean people through the Red Cross.
Miguel Silvestre emphasized that the storm that hit the Gabu region, especially the Sincham Bassiru community, prompted the Portuguese Embassy and Portuguese cooperation to mobilize efforts to strengthen the Red Cross's capacity in terms of resources to meet this urgent need.
A local authority reported that the strong storm severely affected the area on the 10th of this month, destroying 120 homes and directly impacting 379 families, placing the community in a state of extreme vulnerability.
The Sol Mansi radio station noted that the Portuguese contribution included food products, such as rice, which is a staple in the Guinean diet, as well as mats.
Lassana Mane, representing the Red Cross, thanked Portugal for the support provided and assured 'full transparency and efficiency' in distributing food among those affected.
The leader also took the opportunity to call on other partners and the international community to join the effort of solidarity and support for the Sincham Bassiru community.
