With daily use of a kitchen rack for drying dishes after washing, stubborn layers of grease, oil, and white water marks accumulate over time on its thin grids and in the corners. Due to the effect of steam, oil splashes, and constant contact with water, this dirt becomes so hard that it cannot be removed with regular soap or a sponge.
An uncleaned rack not only spoils the appearance of the kitchen but also creates a risk of bacterial and mold growth. If your kitchen rack is covered in grease and has become sticky, you can quickly and effortlessly clean it using household items so that it shines like new.
The following ingredients are required for cleaning: 3 tablespoons of baking soda, 1/2 cup of white vinegar, 2 tablespoons of dishwashing liquid, one large basin or bucket filled with hot water, one old toothbrush, and the juice of one lemon.
The first step is to completely empty the rack, removing all dishes, cutlery holders, and trays.
In a large basin or bucket, prepare boiling water, adding 3 tablespoons of baking soda, 1/2 cup of white vinegar, and 2 tablespoons of detergent to create a foamy mixture.
Submerge the rack (made of steel or plastic) in this hot solution and leave it for 15–20 minutes. The hot water and vinegar will help quickly loosen the most stubborn spots of grease and lubricant.
While the rack is soaking, mix 2 tablespoons of baking soda with 1 tablespoon of lemon juice to form a thick paste.
After 20 minutes, remove the rack from the solution. Then, apply the baking soda and lemon paste to an old toothbrush and thoroughly scrub the areas where grease, corners, and thin grids have accumulated.
To remove white water stains or rust marks, apply baking soda to the lemon peel and rub the area for two minutes; thanks to its acidic properties, the stains will disappear immediately.
After thoroughly cleaning the entire rack with a brush, rinse it under a strong stream of fresh or warm water to remove all debris and soap residue.
Wipe the rack dry with a dry cotton cloth and let it air dry in the sun or near a fan for 10 minutes. After drying, your kitchen rack will look brand new.
