Uzbekistan identifies priority sectors for economic growth in various regions

Uzbekistan has determined the priority directions for economic growth in each region as part of efforts to increase production, create high-paying jobs, and expand export opportunities. These new areas of development were presented during the sixth open dialogue of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev with entrepreneurs in Khiva, according to the president's press secretary Sherzod Asadov.

By 2026, Uzbekistan aims to increase its gross domestic product to over 180 billion US dollars and exports to over 40 billion US dollars. To achieve these targets, the authorities plan to create conditions for further entrepreneurial development, increase the production of high value-added goods, generate well-paid employment, and help companies enter new foreign markets.

Mirziyoyev emphasized the need to maintain high rates of economic growth to improve the lives of the population, stating: 'We are 40 million people. To further improve the lives of our people, we must maintain high rates of economic growth.'

In Tashkent, export-oriented business has been recognized as one of the key development areas. In the Andijan, Fergana, and Namangan regions, priority will be given to textile production and full-cycle mechanical engineering. The Samarkand, Bukhara, and Khorezm regions will focus on developing their own brands in tourism, creative industries, and the agro-industrial complex.

The Navoi and Tashkent regions plan to develop long value chains in mining, metallurgy, and chemical science. The Kashkadarya and Surkhandarya regions have identified the agro-industrial sector and petrochemical industry as promising areas. In Karakalpakstan, green energy, information technology, and artificial intelligence have been named as drivers of economic growth.

The Jizzakh and Syrdarya regions intend to develop competitive clusters in automotive manufacturing, electrical engineering, and construction material production. According to Mirziyoyev, the development of these sectors should open up new opportunities for residents and entrepreneurs within the country. He added: 'Then our people will no longer have to go abroad to earn a living, and the entrepreneurs of New Uzbekistan will enter a new stage of development. I am confident that we have enough strength, opportunities, and potential for this.'
