Uzbek universities offer nearly 32 thousand vacant places for applicants

Higher education institutions in Uzbekistan have opened about 32,000 vacant spots, providing applicants with an additional opportunity to enroll between August 22 and 28, according to the press service of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Innovation.

This opportunity is available to candidates who scored at least 56.7 points but did not receive a recommendation for admission to any of the five universities they selected. They can apply for vacant places in other higher educational institutions by submitting an application through the website of the Agency for Assessment of Knowledge and Qualifications.

The available study programs will be determined based on the subjects the applicants took in the entrance exams, as well as the language of instruction. Admission for the sixth option of study is possible only on a contract basis.

No additional exams will be held; applicants will be accepted in descending order of their scores.

The competition for university admission has increased this year. The average passing score was 134.6 points for state-funded places and 93.7 points for contract studies out of a possible 189 points. Last year, the corresponding figures were 121.8 and 84.9 points.

At the same time, this year one out of three applicants failed to reach the minimum threshold of 56.7 points in the entrance exams. For comparison, in 2023, almost half of the applicants did not pass this minimum threshold.

The most in-demand universities in this year's admission campaign were Tashkent State Economic University, the State University of Uzbekistan for World Languages, and the National University of Uzbekistan. The most popular fields of study were medicine, economics, and philology.

In some study programs, the number of applicants who achieved the maximum score exceeded the number of available places.
