New Farmers to Receive Special Program at Nampo Cape Event

A special platform will be organized for the next generation of farmers at the upcoming Nampo Cape event. The organizers are Food For Mzansi and Western Cape P.L.A.S. Farmers’ Alliance, who are joining forces to conduct a program focused on practical solutions to the most serious problems faced by farmers.

This special program for novice farmers is scheduled for Thursday, September 10, from 09:00 to 11:45. The venue will be the Food For Mzansi site, located in the Santam Auditorium at Bredasdorp Park.

As part of the program, new farmers will have the opportunity to interact with government representatives, agricultural experts, and industry leaders. Topics discussed cover a wide range of issues, including land reform, title deed registration, access to state support, agricultural insurance, and alternative financing models.

The goal of the session is not merely to highlight the difficulties faced by young farmers but to concentrate on finding effective solutions and providing an opportunity for direct interaction with specialists in these fields.

The morning will begin with a presentation by Western Cape P.L.A.S. Farmers’ Alliance, which will outline its vision, goals, and role in creating new opportunities for emerging farmers through partnerships, support, and improved resource access.

This will be followed by a panel discussion focusing on the most pressing issues facing farmers. The program will address key aspects of agricultural risks and insurance, as well as land reform and title deed procedures.

Michael Brinkhuis, Director of Agricultural Production Development and Support in the Western Cape Department of Agriculture, will deliver a presentation on accessing the Comprehensive Agricultural Support Programme (CASP).

Falon Mars from Mars Rossouw Attorneys INC. will provide practical legal guidance on matters affecting farmers, such as labor law, workplace disputes, evictions, wills, and estate planning, helping farmers better protect their businesses, assets, and livelihoods.

Furthermore, the program will explore options beyond traditional financing models. Sibusiso Mabusa from Phahama Grain Phakama will discuss alternative ways to finance agricultural enterprises.

Alfreda Mars from Western Cape P.L.A.S. Farmers’ Alliance will share a practical perspective from the grain sector, focusing on solutions to overcome some of the difficulties farmers face.

The program is open to all novice farmers attending Nampo Cape, and spontaneous visitors are welcome. The event will take place on Thursday, September 10, from 09:00 to 11:45 at the Food For Mzansi site in the Santam Auditorium at Bredasdorp Park.
