The Iranian national basketball team has arrived in Manila, the capital of the Philippines, to participate in the fourth window of qualifying matches for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027.
During this stage of the competition, the Iranian national team will play two significant matches. The first match is scheduled for August 28, when Iran will face New Zealand in an anticipated highly competitive clash. Two days later, on August 30, Iran will play against the host team, the Philippines.
These two games are of great importance to Iran as the team continues its campaign to secure a spot in the 2027 Basketball World Cup. The matchups against New Zealand and the Philippines will also provide valuable international experience and an opportunity for Iranian players to test their skills against strong opponents.
Iran's schedule will remain busy after the matches in Manila. Immediately following the game against the Philippines, the national team will travel to Japan to participate in the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya, which will take place from September 10 to September 20.
At the Asian Games, Iran has been placed in Group B alongside Jordan, Chinese Taipei, and Qatar. This competition will give the Iranian team another important chance to compete at the continental level.
Given the upcoming sequence of two major tournaments, Iran needs to maintain physical fitness, concentration, and team cohesion. The coming weeks could prove decisive for the national team in its pursuit of making a strong impression in both the World Cup qualifiers and the Asian Games.
