UAE Meteorology Center issues yellow rain warning after unstable weather in Abu Dhabi

The UAE National Center of Meteorology (NCM) has issued a yellow warning for possible rain, valid until 21:00 today (August 22), in some regions of the country, including Al Ain, where heavy rain was observed on Friday.

This warning informs about the probability of convective cloud formation, which is associated with precipitation. Furthermore, residents are advised to be prepared for winds ranging from light to strong, which may lead to dust and sand lifting, as well as reduced horizontal visibility.

According to NCM data, clear or partly cloudy skies are expected today. Convective clouds are likely to form in the eastern and southern parts of the country in the afternoon.

Temperatures will gradually rise: the maximum temperature in Abu Dhabi will reach 46°C, in Dubai and Sharjah it will be 44°C, while minimum values in these three emirates will approach 33°C. High humidity is expected at night and on Sunday morning in some coastal areas.

Humidity levels are forecast to be between 15 and 65 percent in Abu Dhabi, 20 to 60 percent in Dubai, and 15 to 55 percent in Sharjah. Light to moderate winds will blow from southeast to northeast, occasionally strengthening to speeds of up to 50 km/h.

Earlier, on August 21, heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning was observed in some areas of Abu Dhabi. During this event, trees and road signs were reportedly shaking, while cars moved through water-covered streets.

Weather conditions also required precautionary measures in the capital. The Abu Dhabi Municipality temporarily closed all parks, recreational areas, and adjacent beaches, and suspended events until further notice. Similarly, the Al Ain Municipality announced the temporary closure of parks.

Later, Al Ain reported the resumption of its park operations, while Abu Dhabi announced the reopening of parks, recreational areas, and adjacent beaches. The municipality explained that these measures were taken as preventive protection to ensure residents' safety amid changeable weather and heavy rainfall in several areas of Abu Dhabi.

Rain fell in Dubai amid intense summer heat shortly before the appearance of the star Suhail

Some areas of Dubai experienced precipitation on Tuesday, August 18, providing a refreshing break from the intense summer heat for residents. A video published by the Storm Center shows rain pouring down on Margam, an oil and gas field in Dubai, obscuring a car's windbreak.

Previously, the National Center of Meteorology (NCM) had forecast rain for Tuesday, indicating that convective clouds associated with precipitation could form in the eastern and southern parts of the country by noon.

Meanwhile, although there was no rain in Fujairah, the sky in the emirate was gray and cloudy. These downpours occurred against the backdrop of the UAE recording a temperature of 50.4°C in Badadafas, Ad-Dhafra region, which was the highest temperature in the country on August 14 and only one degree lower than the highest recorded this year to date.

As there is less than a week until the appearance of the star Suhail, traditionally considered a sign of the beginning of the easing of the harshest period of summer, residents are anticipating cooler conditions. The star Suhail is expected to rise on August 24 of this year. Although the star's appearance culturally signals a gradual transition to cooler weather, UAE experts warn that temperatures will not drop sharply overnight; a gradual decrease in temperature is expected, but increased humidity may still make conditions uncomfortable.

Thunderstorms and hail hit UAE; orange and yellow warnings issued

Rain was observed again in the UAE on Sunday, August 9th. Videos have appeared online showing thunderstorms and hail falling on Al Ain.

The last two weeks in the eastern and southern regions of the country have been accompanied by wet weather, despite peak summer temperatures reaching 50°C. The National Center of Meteorology (NCM) issued orange and yellow warnings regarding convective clouds that may cause precipitation, and these warnings are valid until 22:00 on Sunday.

Areas covered by this alert include the southern districts of Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and Fujairah emirates. Footage shows heavy rain and hail falling on the Dubai-Al Ain road on Sunday, August 9th, with reduced visibility on the road.

Another video demonstrates camels sheltering under trees during heavy downpours in the desert. Residents were advised to exercise caution when going outdoors on that day due to expected hazardous weather phenomena.

Meanwhile, Oman warned its residents about possible flash floods due to heavy rains over the Hajar Mountains, located on the border with the UAE. The Omani Meteorological Department also forecasted hail in the region and issued warnings nationwide.

Concurrently, the meteorological center of Saudi Arabia warned residents of some regions about thunderstorms and hail, as well as heavy rains and winds that could raise dust.

According to NCM data, the UAE may face additional rainy days over the next week, which will be a relief for residents struggling with high temperatures reaching 50°C. On Saturday, thousands of residents traveled to Mleiha in search of rain and encountered a period of heavy rain, thunder, and hail in the afternoon.

Astronomers predict that the star Suhail will rise on August 24th, which usually marks the end of the peak of summer and the beginning of a 40-day transition period from extreme heat to cooler temperatures.
