The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, held a high-level meeting in Lucknow where he issued strict directives to ensure an adequate supply of sugar in the state and completely curb speculation and price gouging.
It was noted that there is a sufficient stock of sugar at the region's sugar mills. The Minister ordered that strict action be taken under the law against any dealer who stores more than 400 tons of reserves simultaneously or stores them for more than 30 days.
According to the results of the meeting, a total of 179.38 lakh quintals of sugar are available at the state's sugar mills. This reserve includes 23.60 lakh quintals in cooperative sugar mills, 5.28 lakh quintals in corporate sugar mills, and 150.50 lakh quintals in private sugar mills.
Officials were clearly instructed to apply stringent measures, including the use of ESMA, to those who store sugar for more than 30 days or hold reserves exceeding 400 tons.
At the meeting, the government announced that the Uttar Pradesh government has paid record amounts to sugarcane farmers. A total of 3217 crore rupees was distributed to 48 lakh farmers in the state. Additionally, the new season for sugarcane crushing in the region is scheduled to begin on October 15.
