Parks and beaches reopened in Abu Dhabi after Friday's bad weather

In the emirates of Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, parks, beaches, and other recreational areas that were temporarily closed due to unstable weather conditions have resumed operations.

At the end of Friday, the city experienced heavy rain, thunderstorms, and stormy winds. Video footage showed trees swaying during the storm.

The UAE National Center of Meteorology had previously forecast variable cloudiness for Friday, with a probability of cloud formation and precipitation in the afternoon.

The sky turned purple due to lightning flashes over the city.

The latest forecast from the National Center of Meteorology indicates that the unstable summer weather has not yet ended. For Saturday, August 22, clear or partly cloudy skies are expected, but convective clouds with precipitation are possible in the eastern, southern, and western districts in the afternoon.

The wind will be light to moderate from the southeast to the northeast, but may occasionally intensify to fresh or strong, causing dust and sand to rise at speeds of up to 50 km/h. Sunday also expects a possibility of daytime rain in the eastern districts, with wind speeds up to 40 km/h, which could also lead to dust lifting.

Abu Dhabi Municipality Temporarily Closes Beaches and Parks Due to Unstable Weather

The Abu Dhabi municipality has decided to temporarily close all parks, recreation areas, and associated beaches, as well as suspend events until further notice. These measures were taken amid ongoing unstable weather conditions in the emirate.

The municipality explained that such steps were necessary as a preventive measure to ensure the safety of residents and protect the population under variable weather and heavy rainfall in several areas of Abu Dhabi.

Furthermore, the Abu Dhabi Police activated a speed reduction system on several roads due to rainy conditions. On streets such as Sweihan-Nahel, Al Khaznah-Remah, Umm Al Oush-Al Razeen, and Al Faya-Al Khatim, the speed was limited to 80 km/h.

These restrictions were introduced as residents of the United Arab Emirates began the weekend with rainy weather; on Friday, downpours accompanied by overcast skies and lower temperatures were observed in various areas.

The UAE National Center for Meteorology had previously forecast variable cloudiness for Friday, with the possibility of cumulus clouds developing over the eastern and southern regions, which could lead to rain in the afternoon. Additionally, the meteorological resource Storm Centre, based in the UAE, published videos demonstrating moderate and heavy precipitation in various parts of the country, including Abu Dhabi.
