The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has expanded its digital local pass service, which is now available at 121 toll collection points across the country. This service allows residents living near toll plazas to obtain a monthly pass, eliminating the need for them to pay multiple times for passage.
Users can obtain this pass through the 'Rajmarg Yatra' application. With this pass, they can pass through toll plazas without paying any fees. A certain amount must be paid to apply.
Applications for this digital pass can be submitted for individuals residing within a 20-kilometer radius of the toll plaza. It is important to note that this pass is valid only for non-commercial vehicles. The entire verification process will be conducted online. Address details are confirmed using DigiLocker, and vehicle information and linked FASTag data are checked via the vehicle database.
Previously, drivers had to visit toll plazas and provide physical documents. Now, this entire procedure can be done remotely using the 'Rajmarg Yatra' application. According to the National Highway Road Usage Rules, a fee of ₹350 must be paid for this local pass, which is intended for non-commercial vehicles. Possession of this pass is mandatory for passing through the toll gates, allowing eligible residents to easily cross the toll plazas.
The introduction of the digital local pass is another step towards implementing the Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) system and barrier-free toll collection system. Under MLFF, people no longer need to stop at toll plazas. The MLFF system was first launched in July 2026 at the Mundka-Bakkarwala toll plaza in Delhi.
Currently, this feature is available in six locations: Chhoriyasi, Mundka, Daulatpura, Garaunda, Manoharpur, and Shahjahanpur. Many residents in these areas received electronic penalty notices due to the absence of staff at these toll plazas, causing them difficulties. The digital local pass was issued to resolve this issue.
