Young woman rescued after being held captive for five days in Brazil

A 24-year-old young woman was freed by the Military Police of Goiás, Brazil, after being kidnapped by her ex-husband and kept chained and gagged for five days.

The suspect was arrested in flagrante delicto for the crimes of kidnapping and abduction. According to the Brazilian newspaper Metrópoles, the rescue took place on Friday in Águas Lindas de Goiás. The victim was found imprisoned with handcuffs, ropes, and an iron chain, in addition to wearing a face mask to prevent neighbors from hearing her screams.

She reported to the police that she was sexually assaulted several times by her ex-husband while in captivity. The alert about her disappearance was issued to the authorities on the previous Monday, August 17th, when the young woman left home for a medical appointment and did not return.

Subsequently, analysis of surveillance camera footage allowed it to be confirmed that she had left the location, which was the last time she was seen. The woman was located days later after a Military Police team approached the ex-husband—who was also missing—in a public area. During this approach, the man tried to escape but was detained.

Currently, the case is under investigation by the Civil Police of Goiás.
