Tata Harrier EV surpasses petrol and diesel versions in sales

The Tata Harrier EV has changed the market by showing that the demand for electric SUVs exceeds the demand for internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. Although many consumers might prefer the ICE variant, statistics disprove this hypothesis.

Thanks to the launch of the Tata Harrier EV model, data demonstrates a different scenario. The pace at which this electric variant has overtaken the petrol and diesel versions is a significant indicator in itself.

Tata released the Harrier EV in June 2025. Since July 2025, this model has been sold monthly in greater numbers than its petrol and diesel counterparts. An analysis of data over 10 months, from June 2025 to March 2026, shows that 17,592 units of the Harrier EV were sold, while the cumulative sales of petrol and diesel versions amounted to 13,416 units.

This means that 57 percent of the total Harrier units sold during this ten-month period were electric. In June 2026, 2,962 Harrier SUVs were sold, of which 1,903 were EVs, accounting for 64 percent of Harrier sales in June. Thus, out of every three Harriers sold, two are electric models.

This fact is particularly important considering that the petrol and diesel variants are significantly cheaper than the EV. The Harrier Petrol starts from an export price of 12.99 lakh rupees, whereas the Harrier EV starts from an export price of 21.69 lakh rupees, demonstrating a substantial price difference.

The real competition begins when comparing the vehicle's features. Features available in the 21.69 lakh EV Harrier are absent in the 13 lakh version. Tata has cleverly priced the Harrier EV to approach the prices of premium Harrier ICE variants.

The Harrier EV boasts greater power and more features. Its 75kWH QWD all-wheel-drive variant is equipped with two motors and can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 6.3 seconds. In contrast, the Harrier ICE lacks all-wheel drive capability. The car has a claimed range of 627 kilometers and supports fast charging, allowing it to cover 215 kilometers in just 15 minutes of charging.

In July 2025, after the Harrier EV launch, the company sold 2,216 units, compared to only 894 Harrier units sold in May 2025. In March 2026, Harrier sales reached 2,826 units, and in June 2026, they rose to 2,962. In July 2026, the sales figure reached 3,301. The annual sales growth rate for this model was 49 percent, indicating a continuous monthly increase in electric Harrier sales.

Skoda prepares to introduce CNG cars and SUVs to compete with TATA-Maruti and Hyundai

Currently, Skoda sells only gasoline-powered vehicles in the Indian market, but the company plans to introduce various powertrains in the future. The brand confirmed that a diesel-engine Superb will be released next year, and it is also preparing to launch an electric vehicle that will appear in India in 2027.

In parallel, Skoda is actively working on implementing Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) equipment. The company plans to equip the CNG powertrain with a 1.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine. This engine is used in the Kodiaq, Slavia, and Kushaq models, meaning that the CNG option could appear in all three of these vehicles. The introduction of the CNG engine will allow Skoda to compete with Tata, Maruti, and Hyundai in the Indian market.

According to AutoCar Professional, Aashish Gupta, Director of Skoda India, stated that the 1.0-liter engine and the MQB A0-IN platform are common to the Kodiaq, Slavia, and Kushaq, which opens up possibilities for all three products. Discussing the topic of CNG, he noted that the crisis in the Middle East and the blending of ethanol have undermined consumer confidence in gasoline, leading to a decline in market share. To remain competitive, companies need to offer alternatives. He emphasized that the Kodiaq segment is key for them, and this is where they aim to introduce the CNG option.

The main goal for Skoda in introducing CNG is to maintain performance while ensuring fuel efficiency. Gupta reported that consumers are willing to accept a 10–15% reduction in performance compared to gasoline counterparts when using CNG. Skoda's 1.0-liter three-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine produces 115 hp and 178 Nm of torque.

Aashish Gupta believes that buyers can purchase CNG vehicles even at a higher price because every car has its place. He also mentioned the presence of premium customers who are interested in CNG vehicles for economic benefit. Currently, the price of the Kodiaq ranges from 7.59 lakh to 12.99 lakh rupees, and the Kushaq starts from 10.99 lakh and reaches 18.99 lakh rupees. The company has not yet announced prices for the Slavia Facelift, and it will be interesting to see how Skoda integrates the CNG engine into these models.

Chief Minister of Goa Replaces Diesel Car with Domestic Electric Vehicle with 627 km Range

As part of state support for electric vehicles, the Minister of Goa, Dr. Pramod Sawant, decided to replace his official diesel car with a locally manufactured electric vehicle. He is the first official in Goa to take such a step. Previously, a similar initiative in green mobility was implemented by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, who added an electric crossover to his fleet.

Dr. Pramod Sawant replaced his diesel car with the Tata Harrier EV, which will serve as his official transport. This crossover is a powerful and imposing vehicle equipped with numerous modern features.

Tata Motors released this model with All Wheel Drive functionality. This eliminates one of the main complaints of consumers about Tata cars, as this feature was previously absent in their Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicles.

Tata set the starting price for the Harrier EV at ₹21,69,000 excluding taxes. The top-end variant, Empowered All Wheel Drive 75 AFC, costs ₹29.68 lakh excluding taxes. Additionally, the company added a more affordable all-wheel-drive option priced at ₹29.19 lakh excluding taxes.

The Tata Harrier EV combines a reliable structure and a powerful battery, along with all-wheel drive capability. The car is developed on the Acti.ev architecture. The base version has rear-wheel drive and produces 238 hp.

In the all-wheel-drive variant, the car can achieve a power output of 390 hp and a torque of 504 Nm. Two battery types are available: 65 kWh and 75 kWh, providing a claimed range of 538 kilometers and 627 kilometers, respectively. The car supports fast DC charging at 120 kW and can charge from 20% to 80% in approximately 25 minutes. The maximum speed is 180 kilometers per hour.

The cabin includes a trunk capacity of 502 liters and additional luggage space of 67 liters. The car is equipped with a 14.5-inch Samsung Neo QLED display and has received a 5-star safety rating.
