Worker earning 35 thousand rubles spends 6 hours a day commuting to work in a large city

In a large city similar to Mumbai, work is a dream for many, but daily commutes to work can be more challenging than the job itself. This is what happened to one employee who shared his routine on social media. He reported that he spends about six hours daily solely on travel. Meanwhile, his monthly income is approximately 35 thousand rupees, and he expresses his state with the phrase: 'I only come home to sleep.'

This worker from the Maharashtra state published his daily schedule on the Reddit platform. He stated that he wakes up around five in the morning and leaves home around 6:30 AM. His residence is in Badlapur, near Mumbai, while his office is located in Goregaon. In the morning, he takes a local train from Badlapur station around 7:15 AM. Upon arriving at Dadar, he has to change to another line's train. Even after reaching Goregaon, his journey is not over: to access the office, he has to wait in line for a shuttle bus for about thirty minutes. Thus, his workday begins approximately three and a half hours after leaving home.

The work process continues in the evening. The employee leaves the office around seven in the evening, after which the long journey begins again. Using trains and other modes of transport from Goregaon, he arrives home in Badlapur around eleven at night. As a result, most of his time, from leaving in the morning to returning in the evening, is spent either at work or traveling. He emphasized that he makes this trip daily, having only Sunday off.

After posting on social media, many users asked him why he doesn't rent a room or live in a dormitory near the office. The worker explained that he tried to find such accommodation, but the rent near the office was too high. He also noted that some cheaper options he found were in poor condition and did not meet sanitary standards. With his monthly salary of 35 thousand rupees, he cannot afford an expensive room or dormitory near work, forcing him to make the long commute daily from Badlapur to Goregaon.

Expressing his fatigue, the worker noted that the daily six hours of travel are extremely exhausting. He believes that such a significant portion of his day is spent commuting, leaving him no time for rest or family after getting home. He summarized his situation with the phrase: 'I only come home to sleep.' His post sparked a discussion on social media about how difficult it is to balance low wages, long commutes, and high rental prices in a metropolis.

Network users offered him various pieces of advice. One suggested trying to stay in inexpensive hostels near the office for a few days a week to slightly reduce daily travel. Another commenter described his journey as extremely arduous, comparing it more to a punishment than a regular trip. A third person shared their past experience, advising him to change the route to Badlapur-Dombivli and live closer to the workplace. However, it should be noted that this entire story is based on the employee's social media post, and Aajtak.in does not independently confirm these claims.
