Food Safety Department Raid in Lucknow: Filth and Presence of Animals Found at Sweet Making Place

During preparations to buy sweets from the market before Raksha Bandhan, an action taken by the Food Safety Department in Lucknow exposed a shocking situation. During the raid on Shivachi Sweets located in the Hardoiya Lal Nagar area of Kakori, officials found excessive filth at the sweet making place. Dirty water was accumulated around the sweets, flies were present, and buffaloes were tied nearby.

When the Food Safety Department team entered the shop, a large number of buffaloes were found tied at the manufacturing site. According to officials, splatters of dung from these buffaloes were reaching the prepared sweets. The premises had damp walls, and foul water was collected in a nearby open drain, and it was in this environment that sweets were being prepared and stored.

During the investigation, approximately 1000 liters of contaminated solution, a mixture of milk powder, sugar, and water, was recovered in dirty plastic drums. Officials also found dead flies in this solution. At the time of the raid, about 1675 kilograms of ready-made sweets were also found, including about 1000 kg of kalakand, 350 kg of smooth barfi coated with work, 300 kg of doda barfi, and peda. All these sweets were kept amidst insects in the open. Additionally, the team found cephalite, alum, and some suspicious white crystal powder, which is suspected to have been used in the sweets.

The investigation also revealed that the establishment only had a retail sales license, while large-scale production of sweets was taking place there. None of the approximately 25 employees working here had undergone any medical examination. Furthermore, it was found that the employees were not following essential food safety standards such as wearing gloves and head caps.

The Food Safety Department has marked a total of 2675 kilograms of contaminated goods for destruction and sealed the room. Additionally, raw materials worth over 79 thousand rupees, amounting to about 686 kilograms, were seized. Currently, 15 samples taken from the site have been sent to the laboratory for testing. Following this entire action, the department has ordered the immediate closure of the unit.

Re-interrogation of Dr. Vivek Gupta in Uzbek woman's case raises questions about Lakhnau police work

The case of the Uzbek woman, Lola, has raised questions regarding the actions of the Lakhnau police. In the initial complaint filed in June 2025, Dr. Vivek Gupta, who performed plastic surgery, was named as a suspect. The accusation was that the local police, administration, or FRRO had not been notified about the operation performed on a foreign national. However, during the investigation, the doctor's name was removed, and he was released without prejudice, being excluded from the indictment.

Following Lola's re-arrest, the police again detained Vivek Gupta for questioning. This raises the main question: why is a re-interrogation being conducted if he was previously granted amnesty? This measure casts doubt on the previous investigation and the methods of the police.

About a year ago, Holida and Nilofer, also from Uzbekistan, gave statements to the police, claiming that their operations were performed by Dr. Vivek Gupta. According to the accused, the doctor did not require any documents to perform the surgeries. They informed the police that Vivek runs the Minerva clinic in Ahimamao and Jatarpuram.

The then DCP Nipun Agrawal stated that Vivek and his accomplice Trijin Raj were illegally housing foreign women at addresses 104 and 1103 in the Omex R-1 complex. The investigation also revealed that Lola had applied to the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Delhi in 2023 requesting to return to Uzbekistan. She was given three months, but she did not return after the deadline expired. The police also found photographs of several foreign women on the suspect's mobile phone, who were allegedly sent to clients, which expanded the scope of the entire network investigation.

According to regulations, the Form-C procedure is crucial for informing relevant agencies about the stay or treatment of any foreign national. Lola's friend, Umida, a citizen of Uzbekistan, visited a private hospital for treatment. The hospital management notified the police, intelligence agency, and FRRO through Form-C. Subsequently, the FRRO and police team arrived at the hospital, where they met Lola along with Umida.

During the interrogation, Lola stated that she lived in Omex and married a man named Bharat Pratap. Umida came to India on a medical visa and was deported. Now, the re-arrest and interrogation of Dr. Vivek Gupta in Lola's case pose a serious question to the old case investigation.
