Review of Pink Duck Restaurant Visit: Discussion of Quiz and Thai Cuisine Assessment

The author shares impressions from the monthly quiz held at Pink Duck restaurant. The author participated in a team with Sheriff, the Decorator, two teachers, and the Decorator's friend, whom Sheriff calls Jesus.

The team competed in a garden competition involving ten teams. During the quiz, various topics were discussed, including rivers, lakes, and mountains. For instance, a question was asked about the largest lake in Africa; although Sheriff insisted on Lake Malawi, the author noted that Lake Victoria is larger. The deepest body of water on the continent was also discussed, which Sheriff believed to be Lake Malawi, but the author clarified that it is Lake Tanganyika.

In the geography section, the author mentioned the world's longest mountain range—the Andes—and asked whether the Caspian Sea could be considered a lake, receiving an affirmative answer.

The discussion then moved to current events. Participants were aware of the incident involving Trump's food van. Additionally, information was mentioned about a proposed pipeline that was relocated from the coast of Wales because it might desecrate the fictional grave of the Harry Potter character, Dobby.

Pink Duck has moved from its location on Florida Road and now operates in St Clements, a popular cafe and diner on Musgrave Road. The restaurant's menu is small and specializes in Thai dishes, supplemented by burgers, sandwiches, and grilled items; all dishes are prepared fresh.

As appetizers, spring rolls and samosas were offered, which the author found better than most. Thai shrimp patties were also noted as good. On this day, the author tried fish cakes (R65), which had a pleasant crispy crust and a good spicy dipping sauce.

In the main menu, Sheriff, who does not like spicy food, enjoyed the cashew chicken (R129). One of the teachers preferred spicier food. Another teacher ordered a bistro burger with salad instead of fries (R129), which turned out to be a juicy homemade patty stuffed with cheese and balsamic onions. Jesus enjoyed the chili and basil chicken (R116), which was hot and tasty. Other options included Thai curry, steak, fish with chips, and croque monsieur. The Decorator chose a toast sandwich, and the author enjoyed fried calamari with chips and tartar (R179).

During the meal, they were offered a 'truth or lie' round, in which they were unable to answer correctly, but they managed to grasp the section on German history. For dessert, the author tried a lime cupcake, which was very moist and generously topped with thick cream.

The final round focused on pictures, where a series of images formed a proverb, a pop star's name, or a country's name. Although the author admitted weakness in such tasks, the teachers proved strong in this category. In the end, the team took a middle place, and the evening was very fun.

Based on the evaluation: Food received 3.5 points, service received 3.5 points, and atmosphere received 3.5 points. The total cost for the author was 366 ringgit.
