Riot Games ends active development of 2XKO at the end of 2026

Riot Games announced that the active development of the game 2XKO will conclude at the end of 2026. Although the title has an engaged community, the number of active players was not sufficient to guarantee the project's sustainability.

However, the cessation of development does not mean the end of the game. Servers will remain operational after 2026, and the game will continue to be available for free download on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S platforms. Furthermore, the offline mode will not be affected by this decision.

The developer evaluated various indicators during 2026, including revenue, retention rate, new player acquisition, and engagement level. Even after implementing updates with characters such as Akali, Senna, Thresh, and the PvE mode The Climb, the game's trajectory could not be permanently altered.

Riot Games stated that the operational costs of 2XKO are substantially higher than the generated revenue, and engagement remained relatively stable even after major content additions. Among the options analyzed by the company were reducing the team, modifying the update frequency, or changing the business model; however, the choice fell on completing the content already in production and halting active development.

Before the shutdown, the character Lux will be introduced on September 8th via patch 1.3.1. This update will also unlock all champions and remove features such as ranked matches, battle passes, KO Points, seasons, and events.

In October, Samira will be added as the last champion in 2XKO, marking the last major content package. A final update, focused only on fixes, may be released in December. Additionally, Riot announced refunds for all purchases made in 2XKO until August 20th and has already suspended the possibility of new KO Point acquisitions.

The official competitive circuit will maintain normal operation until the end of 2026, with the last event scheduled for November. After this date, independent organizers will be permitted to host tournaments, provided they follow the guidelines established by Riot.
