Today, you do not need to spend 30-40 thousand rubles to acquire high-quality wireless headphones. Models equipped with features such as good sound quality, noise cancellation, and long battery life are available for around 15 thousand rubles. The JBL Live 780NC belongs precisely to this category.
JBL introduced this model in India for 15,999 rupees, although its price on the official website is listed as 18,999 rupees. After about ten days of use, several merits were identified that bring it close to more expensive models, but there are also drawbacks, especially if the user prefers comfort and clearer sound.
Premium Feel Design
Upon first contact with the JBL Live 780NC, it does not look like a cheap accessory. Although the casing is made of plastic, the material quality is high. The headphones feel sturdy, and their finish is well done. The weight is 260 grams, which does not make them excessively heavy.
The design is quite simple, without excessive flashiness or shine. The model is available in various colors, including orange, for those who want to look original. The headphones fold, which simplifies storage in a bag. A special carrying case is also included.
Nevertheless, difficulties may arise during prolonged wear: the clamp and earcups might feel a bit tight to some users. Even after one or two hours of continuous use, the comfort was not as outstanding as one might expect based on the design.
Sound Quality
In terms of audio, the JBL Live 780NC makes the biggest impression. It is equipped with 40mm drivers and reproduces the signature JBL sound. In standard studio mode, the sound is soft and balanced; bass is present but not overly loud.
If bass is preferred, the JBL app offers various sound modes, such as Bass and Extra Bass, which significantly boost low frequencies. However, this can slightly muffle the mid and high frequencies. The reviewer considers the Vocal mode more suitable because the vocals sound cleaner, and voices in songs stand out better. This mode will be useful when listening to podcasts, YouTube videos, and movies.
The Personi-Fi 3.0 feature also plays an important role here, allowing the user to customize the sound according to their preferences. Thus, if the standard sound is unsatisfactory, the headphones can be individually tuned. Spatial Audio technology is also implemented, although its impact when listening to music is not very noticeable. Its benefit is felt more when watching videos and television content.
How Good is Noise Cancellation?
In the headphone segment priced around 15 thousand rubles, noise cancellation is no longer new. Nevertheless, True Adaptive Noise Cancellation 2.0 in the JBL Live 780NC can be its key advantage. This feature effectively reduces ambient noise, which is noticeable in places like offices, cafes, or the subway. However, one cannot expect the level of noise cancellation comparable to expensive models from Sony or Bose.
JBL has also added Ambient Aware and TalkThru functions. Ambient Aware allows hearing surrounding sounds, while TalkThru reduces music volume so one can talk to someone without removing the headphones. In the author's opinion, for this price category, the ANC is good enough and makes the Live 780NC a reliable choice.
What About Calls?
Four microphones are installed in the headphones, and JBL uses Perfect Calls 2.0 technology. The company claims that AI-based voice cleaning technology is integrated into it. These headphones handle everyday calls well, providing acceptable voice quality in both work and casual phone conversations. However, in areas with strong noise, no headphone can completely eliminate background noise.
Battery Life
The JBL Live 780NC will appeal to those who dislike charging their headphones frequently. The manufacturer states that they can last up to 80 hours with ANC turned off. Even with ANC enabled, the battery provides up to 50 hours of operation. A full charge takes about two hours. In practice, the battery demonstrates high endurance, and with daily use for several hours, the device will not need to be charged every day, making it convenient for travel and office work.
No Connection Drawbacks
The JBL Live 780NC uses Bluetooth 6.0, as well as multi-point connection, allowing it to connect to multiple devices simultaneously. This capability is very useful, for example, when you are working on a laptop and receive an incoming call on your phone. Through the JBL Headphones app, you can change sound profiles, use Personi-Fi, and customize many other parameters to suit your needs.
Is It Worth Buying the JBL Live 780NC?
The main feature of the JBL Live 780NC is that it does not rely on a single function. Its design is good, the sound is decent, the ANC is effective, and the battery is its strongest point in this price range. The main drawback is comfort during prolonged wear, as it may not suit everyone. Furthermore, the standard sound is somewhat soft, and to get clearer highs and mids, you will need to change the sound profile in the app.
However, considering the price of around 15 thousand rubles, the JBL Live 780NC represents a very solid package. It includes 40mm drivers, adaptive noise cancellation, multi-point connection, Personi-Fi 3.0, spatial sound, and a battery life of up to 80 hours.
