Large crocodile spotted near bridge in Vadodara; crowd stops to watch video

While driving down the street, people suddenly noticed a giant crocodile walking along the riverbank. This incident occurred in Vadodara, Gujarat. Specifically, the attention of passersby was drawn to a large crocodile that appeared near the Mangal Pandey bridge.

Pedestrians began to stop, traffic slowed down, and soon a large crowd gathered at the spot. The crocodile was first seen walking along the stone railing and then swimming in the waters of the Vishwamitri River. For the people, this sight was quite surprising, so many took out their mobile phones to record videos.

The event took place near the Mangal Pandey bridge, located next to the Karelibagh evening market in Vadodara. The large crocodile came out of the river and started strolling along the stone railing. When drivers and pedestrians crossing the bridge saw the animal, they froze. Gradually, more and more people stopped, and a large number of spectators gathered around the bridge and the road.

The crowd, gathered to observe the crocodile, watched various scenes: some turned on their phone cameras, while others simply stood at a distance, watching the enormous creature. The crocodile walked calmly along the railing for some time before returning to the river water and beginning to swim. Thus, for a while, the discussion about the Mangal Pandey bridge shifted from traffic to this crocodile.

This raises the question of the origin of such a large number of crocodiles in Vadodara. The Vishwamitri River, which flows through the city, is known to be home to many crocodiles. According to reports, there were about 50 crocodiles in the Vishwamitri River in 1960, whereas today their number has exceeded 420 individuals.

Crocodiles are also found in various rivers and ponds throughout the Vadodara district. Besides the Vishwamitri, crocodiles inhabit the rivers Dev, Dhadhar, and Narmada, as well as other water bodies in the district, totaling over a thousand individuals. Therefore, the appearance of crocodiles near the river in the city is not entirely unusual. However, this time the animal appeared not in a remote forest or riverside corner, but right in the middle of the city, near the bridge.

On one side—people and traffic on the road, and on the other—a giant crocodile walking along the stone railing. This is what attracted the heightened interest of local residents. Although such sights can seem exciting, it is extremely important to maintain a distance from crocodiles. Wild animals remain wild, and approaching them can be dangerous.
