The General Pension and Social Security Authority of the UAE (GPSSA) has expanded pension coverage to include Emirati workers employed part-time in both public and private sectors. This change aligns with the country's evolving labor market and the growth of flexible work formats, including on-site, remote, and hybrid arrangements.
Under the new system, part-time employees will be registered in the GPSSA pension scheme if their working hours range from eight to thirty-two hours per week, or from one to four days per week, which is equivalent to twenty to eighty percent of full-time employment.
Their insurance record and pension payments will be calculated proportionally, based on the actual number of hours worked and the approved salary for each respective period.
GPSSA clarified that the responsibility for registering national Emirati employees working part-time lies with the employers. Furthermore, employers must update records on the Ma'ashi platform when fully insured employees transition to part-time contracts.
The Authority added that providing reliable social security for various types of employment contracts grants insured individuals greater freedom to balance work with personal commitments, whether it involves continuing education, caring for family, or other reasons. It was also confirmed that this system ensures continuity of service for individuals moving between full-time and part-time roles, thereby supporting their long-term financial and social security.
