Former player from the Kolkata and Chennai teams, Robin Uthappa, made predictions regarding the Indian national team's squad for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2027. He raised questions about the possible participation of Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Sanju Samson, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the tournament.
According to Uthappa, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Sanju Samson should be included in the World Cup 2027 squad. He also presented his favorite list of 15 players for this World Cup. Uthappa noted that some talented athletes might remain outside the main squad.
In his selection, Uthappa did not include Yashvi Jaiswal and Ishan Kishan. Bhuvneshwar Kumar's place in the squad is due to him taking 28 wickets in IPL 2026, as well as the fact that he last played an ODI for the national team about five years ago.
It is worth noting that Washington Sundar and Harshit Rana, who were previously part of the Indian baseball team under Gautam Gambhir, are predicted by Uthappa not to make the ODI World Cup 2027 squad, despite their recent participation in baseball matches.

For the ODI World Cup, Uthappa included Hardik Pandya in his 15-player squad, but he did not give a spot to another player who could serve as a quick all-rounder. Among the four main fast bowlers in Uthappa's team are Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Siraj, and Arshdeep Singh.
Uthappa stated that his team for the 2027 World Cup in South Africa is ideal preparation if these 15 players play over the next year, calling it a 'stunning team'.
