NOVOSENSE ranks fourth globally and first in China in magnetic sensor production amid rising demand

NOVOSENSE is known as a Chinese manufacturer of analog chips, a supplier of automotive electronics, and an innovator in domestic isolation chips. The company began operations in 2013 with the production of signal conditioning chips for sensors, with magnetic sensors becoming its fastest-growing product line.

According to the latest report from Yole Group, in terms of shipment volume, NOVOSENSE holds the fourth position globally and leads among Chinese manufacturers of magnetic sensors. Its total shipped devices have exceeded 2 billion units, with over one billion shipped in 2025 alone.

In 2024, NOVOSENSE acquired Magntek, a company specializing in magnetic sensors, for cash. Founder and CEO Wang Shenyang stated that both companies complement each other perfectly: NOVOSENSE focuses on current and speed sensors, while Magntek produces position and angle sensors, leading to a synergistic effect of '1 plus 1 equals more than two'. This business synergy, integrated into the semi-annual report for 2025, contributes to revenue growth. Both companies conducted an in-depth knowledge exchange session with Yole Group, where NOVOSENSE's technological structure and new products were presented.

Magnetic sensors include various forms, ranging from discrete components such as inductive coils, Hall relays, and inductive sensors, to chip-scale sensors based on Hall elements and xMR. Marketing Director Se Ben noted that NOVOSENSE has developed a comprehensive platform covering Hall, xMR, inductive, and TMR technologies, each offering advantages in sensitivity, cost, packaging, and environmental resistance.

Hall technology is the most mature: on a silicon platform, it enables detection of switching, current, angle, and position, including planar Hall probing and integrated nickel and iron magnetic flux concentrators for two-dimensional and three-dimensional detection. Furthermore, the company is exploring gallium arsenide-based Hall technology, where high-sensitivity current sensors are currently in the selection stage. Regarding xMR, the company utilized AMR and TMR instead of GMR because TMR offers a better signal-to-noise ratio, providing low-power AMR switches for liquid and battery-level devices, as well as nanoampere-level TMR switches.

NOVOSENSE has also released the MT6901 inductive encoder and a closed-loop ASIC for high-precision current measurement, as well as ASICs for signal conditioning and calibration, thus forming a complete platform. NOVOSENSE's magnetic sensors are divided into six families: current sensors, switches and latches, angle encoders, linear position sensors, speed sensors, and signal conditioning chips, which are used in automotive, industrial, and consumer electronics.

Current sensors are a key focus area: integrated types cover a range from 30 to 200 amperes for 12, 24, and 48-volt systems, while wide-format products are designed for OBC, DC-DC, and battery boards with voltages from 400 to 800 volts. Linear types utilize C-core, U-core, and open-frame copper busbar designs, with NSM2025 incorporating a magnetic flux concentrator structure. Angle encoders cover planar Hall, 3D Hall, AMR, and inductive solutions, integrating the expertise of Magntek's xMR encoders for valves, motors, switches, and robot joints. Linear position sensors are aimed at suspensions, joysticks, watch crowns, and wearables, as well as automotive seats and actuators. Speed sensors, based on AMR technology for wheel speed measurement, are primarily used in ABS, with demand for each wheel driving market growth.

China Unveils a Range of Significant Technological Achievements Across Various Industries

China's state broadcaster unveiled a package of technological achievements presented at the end of summer 2026. Each of these achievements addresses production limitations that the country has faced for many years. This complex covers heavy industry, astronomy, semiconductors, displays, energy, and space.

The faster pace of development is also a defensive move. In several areas where China has managed to close the gap, including high-class radio observation receivers, ultra-thin precision strip steel, and large AMOLED evaporators, foreign suppliers have been tightening export controls over the past two years. The presence of domestic production in each category changes the negotiation dynamics in subsequent licensing rounds. Furthermore, domestic supply ensures a more predictable cost curve for Chinese system integrators, as several end markets are scaling simultaneously, such as next-generation electric vehicles, premium consumer electronics, and space-to-ground communication equipment.

Most notable was the appearance of a new high-quality grade of steel, produced in sheets thinner than A4 paper. Previously, only a few foreign metallurgical plants held a monopoly on thickness and surface quality. Within the same announcement, an upgrade to the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Telescope (FAST), China's flagship radio telescope located in Guizhou, was presented. Operators reported that this upgrade significantly enhances the antenna's ability to capture weak cosmic signals—a capability previously available to fewer than three radio observatories worldwide.

Two-component experimental satellites carrying AI-based payloads were launched from the Dunfeng commercial space innovation center test site. These spacecraft are designed to perform most data filtering, recognition, and output in orbit, transmitting actionable responses instead of raw images. China is among the first countries to place a satellite-to-satellite computing cluster in orbit and demonstrate that orbital computing can be more extensive than just a single-satellite demonstration.

Other elements included in the broadcast feature a domestic replacement for a niche semiconductor material previously imported; a new generation of large AMOLED display panels; a low-cost, high-density sodium-ion battery cell; a network of high-temperature superconducting cables; and progress in the development of a fourth-generation reactor.

The totality of these announcements indicates an industrial policy that consistently accumulates small victories across multiple sectors simultaneously, rather than betting solely on a few flagship industries. This pattern is as significant as the individual products themselves.
