Weekly Astronomy Features Present Images of Total Solar Eclipse Captured in Brazil and Spain

The Olhar Espacial program showcases two notable astronomical images weekly. In the latest edition, two photographs related to astronomical events recorded by Brazilian citizens were shown.

One of the impressive images was captured by photographer Marcelo Maragni in Spain. Three years after recording the 2023 Annular Eclipse in Brazil, Maragni traveled to Spain to witness a total solar eclipse for the first time. In 2023, he had produced a remarkable photograph alongside surfer Ítalo Ferreira. This time, in Spain, he invited Spanish motocross rider Edgar Canet, and in one of the captured photos, the rider appears as if climbing the obscured Sun, ready to perform his acrobatics.

The second image is a visually stunning composition illustrating the progression of the solar eclipse that occurred on August 12, viewed from Castrojeriz, Spain. The Brazilian astrophotographer Kiko Fairbairn documented this event in a rural area of the municipality, surrounded by a field of sunflowers, with the eclipse projected over the Church of Nuestra Señora del Manzano, dating back to the early 13th century.

During the peak moment of the eclipse, the Moon completely covered the Sun for approximately one minute and forty seconds. This phenomenon turned the day into momentary darkness, generating emotion in millions of people, both in Spain and globally.
