The monsoon season brings relief from the heat, but with it comes increased humidity and dampness. These conditions contribute to a number of hair-related problems. Air moisture causes scalp stickiness, sweating, and bacterial proliferation, leading to accelerated hair loss and visible thinning of the scalp.
If you are experiencing increased hair loss and thinning during the monsoon period, natural and effective remedy can be the onion that is in your kitchen.
Stylist Javed Habib previously mentioned in one of his shows that onion juice is a very useful remedy for adding thickness and volume to hair. He advised: 'Squeeze out the onion juice and apply it like an oil. Rinse it off after some time.'
Onions are rich in sulfur, antioxidants, and antibacterial components. These substances not only help immediately stop hair loss but also promote the growth of new, thicker, and longer hair.
To begin, take one or two medium red onions, as they contain more sulfur, which is critical for hair growth. The onion needs to be peeled, grated, or blended, and then the fresh juice squeezed through a clean cotton cloth or sieve.
To minimize the stickiness characteristic of the monsoon season and reduce the smell of onion, it is recommended to add one teaspoon of aloe vera or coconut oil to the juice. Then, a cotton pad is soaked in this juice and gently applied to the roots of the hair, making partings, especially in areas where the hair has become thinner.
After applying the juice, perform a light massage of the scalp with fingertips for five minutes, moving in circular motions to stimulate blood circulation. Leave the juice on the head for 15–20 minutes; prolonged exposure can cause scalp irritation.
The procedure must be finished by thoroughly rinsing with clean water and using a mild or Ayurvedic shampoo to completely remove the onion smell. To achieve the best results and stimulate new hair growth, this remedy should be used only twice a week during the rainy season.
