A 19-year-old student preparing for the NEET exam committed suicide in Khandala village, which belongs to the Vijayapur taluka in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district of Maharashtra state. According to preliminary police reports, he was under severe psychological stress due to poor results on the NEET exam.
The student, identified as Suraj Subhash Shinde, was studying for NEET at home. Police reported that before taking his own life, he wrote a short note. In it, he apologized to his parents, writing: 'Sorry, Mom and Dad, I will become a doctor in the next life. Take care of yourselves and be happy.'
At the time of the incident, family members were away from the village attending a local event. They returned home around two in the afternoon on Wednesday and tried calling Suraj, but his phone was switched off. Subsequently, his younger sister went up to the upper room and found him hanged by a rope. The sister's screams attracted the attention of the family members, who immediately took Suraj to the Vijayapur sub-district hospital. However, doctors declared him dead after examination.
Suraj's funeral took place in a somber atmosphere. A case of an accident has been registered at the Vijayapur police station. The police are continuing to investigate the matter, examining the note and other details of the incident. Law enforcement agencies are also trying to ascertain if there were reasons for the student's action beyond the exam results.
