Google launches Student Hub with AI features for students, integrating Gemini and Google Lens

Google has released a set of new educational features for Gemini, Google Lens, and the Search tool. The core of this update is the Student Hub, a section within the chatbot designed to offer shortcuts for students, containing useful tools for material organization and practical assessment creation.

This new space consolidates several aspects of Gemini, presenting functionality similar to ChatGPT for Teens, which was recently introduced by OpenAI. Like its competitor, the goal is to enable students to compile their notes, research materials, and AI-generated activities without constantly switching between different applications.

The features intended for students will be made available internationally in the free Google AI Plus plan for students, accessible in Brazil. In June, Google had announced the development of mock exams and specific study plans for the Enem exam.

Study notebooks, which already existed, will gain greater prominence within the Student Hub. This feature allows the user to upload materials from a specific subject, such as class notes, so that Gemini can structure a study plan. Based on these documents, the assistant can create a learning itinerary, propose quizzes to identify knowledge gaps, and assemble mini-lessons.

Additionally, these notebooks will begin to incorporate graphs and images into lessons and will have the ability to read the course syllabus to configure the student's calendar in Google Calendar, inserting crucial dates such as deadlines and exam dates.

Google also announced the inclusion of interactive visualizations to explain topics that are better understood visually. Gemini will have the capability to generate tables, grids, and three-dimensional simulations upon request. One example of this is when asking to visualize the functioning of DNA; in this scenario, the student can rotate and zoom the molecular structure to study the content in a more visual way. This tool will be accessible on both the mobile app and the Gemini website, in all languages.

Furthermore, the Deep Research function will be integrated into Gemini Live. This allows maintaining a conversation with the AI in real time while sharing the screen image or the device camera. Students can request more extensive reports on a topic and discuss the results via voice after the research is complete.

The search engine can now display interactive visualizations within AI Summaries, such as charts with dynamic controls. The AI can also analyze content through Lens, including handwritten notes, offering guidance to the student in problem-solving. Previously, Google had presented new AI solutions for the Search tool in May during Google I/O, including integrating the search engine with the Antigravity AI progression tool, although this feature is still restricted to subscribers in the United States.
