Latam Airlines suffers customer data leak, exposing names, emails, and partial credit card details

Latam Airlines customers are being notified about a data leak incident that exposed personal information, including full name, email address, and partial credit card numbers.

The airline did not specify how the leak occurred but confirmed that it notified the National Data Protection Agency (ANPD) about the incident. The problem was detected on July 29, 2026, although the disclosure only happened after a technical analysis determined which customers were affected and what data was compromised.

Although the exact number of affected customers has not been disclosed, Latam informed in a statement that the leak concerns a restricted portion of participants in its loyalty program, Latam Pass.

According to G1, the exposed data includes full name, email, and partial credit card number. Latam emphasizes that complete credit card data was not leaked. However, the combination and diversity of the stolen information could facilitate fraud attempts, such as phishing, which is why potential customers were alerted.

Notified customers received guidance to be cautious with contacts requesting payments, passwords, or account access codes for the airline. Latam reiterated that it will never request access passwords, SMS tokens, or complete credit card details over the phone or messaging apps.

In a note sent to Tecnoblog, Latam Airlines Brazil clarified that it identified a situation involving personal data of a limited group of loyalty program members. In compliance with the General Data Protection Law (LGPD) and other relevant legislation, the company communicated both to the potentially affected public and to the ANPD. Immediately after detecting the event, the company implemented containment and cybersecurity measures.

Latam Airlines Brazil assured that the security and privacy of its customers' data are priorities, maintaining constant processes for improving its systems and data protection mechanisms.
