Indian Women's Hockey Team Advances to Next Round of World Cup After Drawing with England

In the 2026 Women's World Hockey Championship, the Indian team drew with England on August 20th (Thursday). Despite a tense match, neither team managed to score a goal. Thanks to this result, India secured second place in Group D and advanced to the next stage of the tournament.

This match took place in Amsterdam, Netherlands. From the beginning, the Indian team attempted to put pressure on England. Although the Indian players managed to create several good scoring opportunities, they were unable to finish their attacks due to the English defense and goalkeeper. Furthermore, two goals by India were disallowed.

One of the most significant positive aspects for the Indian team was its solid defense. England repeatedly applied pressure in the Indian circle, but the team successfully prevented conceding goals. Goalkeeper Bichu Devi also played a decisive role in maintaining India's position in the match.

Earlier, India started the tournament with a 2-2 draw against China, followed by a 6-1 victory over South Africa. After the draw with England, India concluded its campaign in Group D without any losses and advanced to the next stage in second place.

Under the guidance of head coach Shorda Marizhne, the Indian team will now represent itself in the next round of the World Cup. The team's goal is to demonstrate the best possible result in the playoffs and contend for the title.
