Amazon study shows AI has become a priority factor when buying smartphones

Smartphones are no longer used only for calls and internet access; the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in them is rapidly growing. When choosing a new phone, consumers are paying more attention to AI-based features. According to a new survey by Amazon, 82% of smartphone buyers believe that AI features influence their purchasing decision.

This survey was conducted by Amazon in July 2026 among over 40 thousand people, covering various categories of consumer electronics, including laptops, tablets, and home appliances, in addition to smartphones.

AI Features People Like

According to the study, users prefer AI features in smartphones that simplify their daily tasks. Contextual assistance was the most requested feature, chosen by 25% of respondents. This feature allows the phone to help the user by understanding their current task. Next are generative photo editing, noted by 18% of people, and visual search, chosen by 17% of users. Additionally, 11% of participants considered adaptive battery management an important AI feature.

Performance Remains Critically Important

Despite the growing interest in AI, consumers do not ignore basic device specifications. In the survey, 87% of people named performance and speed as the most important criterion when buying a phone. This is followed by: 79% consider battery life important, and 77% consider camera quality important.

A main problem related to batteries was also identified: 22% of respondents stated that the battery of their current phone should perform better. Following this in importance were the camera and performance.

High Demand for Devices in the ₹25,000 – ₹50,000 Price Range

According to the survey results, 42% of people plan to purchase their next smartphone in the price segment from ₹25,000 to ₹50,000. Furthermore, about 48% are planning to upgrade their phone within the next three months.

When choosing a phone, buyers are now paying attention not only to discounts and low prices. For 47% of respondents, reviews and ratings are extremely important, while 35% consider prices and special offers important. Thus, the modern buyer demands AI features from a phone, but good performance, long battery life, and a high-quality camera are equally important.
