JSC UzHydroEnergo reported that Uzbekistan has launched the 20 MW Charvak wind power plant in the Bostanlyk district of Tashkent region. The implementation of this project was supported by a grant from the Chinese government amounting to 28 million US dollars.
The commissioning of the station took place on August 20. The opening ceremony was attended by the Chinese Ambassador to Uzbekistan, representatives of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, energy and construction companies, management and employees of UzHydroEnergo, as well as representatives of the Khokimiyats of Tashkent region and Bostanlyk district, local activists, and mass media.
The facility includes four wind turbines, each with a capacity of 5 MW, resulting in a total installed capacity of 20 MW. The annual electricity generation at the station can reach 50 million kWh, which, according to UzHydroEnergo, is enough to provide energy for nearly 20 thousand households.
Furthermore, the wind power plant will help reduce the load on the electrical grid and increase the stability of the energy system. Construction and installation works were carried out as part of the project, including the preparation of necessary engineering infrastructure, connection of the station to the power grid, and installation of modern wind turbines.
This project is viewed as another example of cooperation between Uzbekistan and China, as the Chinese side provided a grant of 28 million US dollars for its realization. UzHydroEnergo expects that the operation of the station will reduce the annual consumption of natural gas and coal, as well as cut greenhouse gas emissions, linking the project to the development of environmentally sustainable energy and reducing the country's carbon footprint.
During the ceremony, the results of the 'Wind Power Plant through the Eyes of Young Artists' competition were also presented. Works by graduates of the P. Benkov Republican Specialized Art School were highlighted, and winners and participants received certificates and commemorative gifts from UzHydroEnergo. The launch of the Charvak wind power plant occurred on the eve of the 35th anniversary of Uzbekistan's state independence.
