According to data from the Central Bank of Uzbekistan's pilot financial accessibility index, women in Uzbekistan have access to basic banking services at a level comparable to the national average, but they remain underrepresented in credit access.
The financial inclusion score for women reached 72 out of 100. Approximately 86 percent of adult women hold a basic bank account, which matches the national average of 86 percent.
Regarding savings products, women demonstrated higher adoption rates compared to the national average: 6 percent hold a savings or term deposit, while this figure is 4 percent among the entire adult population.
However, differences are evident in retail and commercial lending. Approximately 19 percent of adult women have an active bank loan account, compared to 20 percent for the general adult population. Furthermore, women accounted for 35 percent of the volume of new retail loans issued during the reporting period and held 38 percent of the total outstanding retail loan portfolio.
The Central Bank concluded that although universal access to basic financial services for women has been largely achieved, regulatory and operational priorities must be directed towards narrowing the gap in credit distribution. Key areas of focus include increasing the volume of financing and the share of the credit portfolio allocated to female borrowers and small and medium-sized enterprises owned by women.
