Phoenix Community Unites to Celebrate Women's Strength and Resilience

More than two hundred community members gathered at the Phoenix Community Center for an event celebrating Women's Day, focusing on resilience, achievements, and the strength of collective action.

Recognizing Those Who Serve:

During the Women's Day celebration, jointly organized by the Phoenix Child Welfare Foundation and the Phoenix Network Forum at the Phoenix Community Center, social workers were recognized.

As South Africans continue to observe and honor Women's Month, over 200 residents assembled at the Phoenix Community Center on Friday, August 14th. This event was dedicated to empowering women, their safety, personal development, and community well-being.

The event was designed as a joint platform that allowed men and women to celebrate women's successes while simultaneously addressing critical issues facing local families. The multifaceted program combined informative panel discussions and motivational speeches with live performances, tributes, and a best-dressed contest.

The event was supported by a diverse group of speakers, including Sahara Shelter manager Nadia Munsamy, GoldBar Sholain CEO Perumal, transformation facilitator Thavashni Holland, and digital content creator Chantal Naidu.

Perspectives from law enforcement, the judicial system, and public service were presented by Lieutenant Colonel Cheryl Pillay from the South African Police Service, National Prosecuting Authority representative Vasanthie Brijmohun, and Sunitha Doodnath from Umngeni-Uthukela Water.

The participation of various sectors highlighted the importance of addressing public safety, economic development, and social welfare through active interdepartmental collaboration.

Phoenix Child Welfare Director Aroona Chetty highly praised the turnout, noting that the event demonstrated the community's collective strength. She stated: 'Women's Day is not just a celebration of women, but a recognition of their strength, resilience, courage, and contribution to our families and our communities.'

She added that watching more than 200 residents gather to celebrate, encourage, and support each other reflects the true spirit of Phoenix.

Adding to the festive atmosphere, popular artist Natasha Portag, known as 'Bash with Tash,' donated her time and performance free of charge in support of this community initiative. Organizers expressed sincere gratitude for her contribution to the day's success.

The entire event was coordinated and conducted by Phoenix Child Welfare Senior Social Worker Manager and Phoenix Network Forum Chairperson Mala Govender, who hosted the ceremony.

The combination of substantive dialogue, public recognition, and general entertainment served as an important reminder that building safer and stronger communities depends on mutual support and continuous collaboration.

Community Unity:

Over 200 guests gathered at the Phoenix Community Center to celebrate Women's Day, focusing on empowerment, inspiration, and community solidarity.

Thanks to the blend of meaningful conversations, recognition of merits, and entertainment, the event became more than just a celebration. It served as a reminder that stronger communities are built when people come together to support, encourage, and lift each other up.
