The Chinese studio Game Science has attracted the attention of the online community by releasing a new 15-minute gameplay trailer for the game Black Myth: Zhong Kui. This project is the second installment in the Black Myth series following the successful release of Wukong.
The impressive trailer showcased in-game combat, hinted at plot elements, and displayed stunning visual effects. Nevertheless, Game Science clarified that the game is still in the early stages of development, and all presented material was filmed within the game process using a build under creation, displayed in a 21:9 aspect ratio. It was noted that the final version of the game may differ from the material shown.
If the first game narrated the journey of Wukong to the West, then in Black Myth: Zhong Kui, the focus shifts to Zhong Kui—a Chinese mythological deity known as the 'King of Ghosts.' His primary function is fighting demons and spirits.
According to the publication China Morning Post, many people still place pictures of Zhong Kui in their homes as a talisman.
Originally, Kui was a mortal scholar. However, due to his unkempt appearance, the emperor stripped him of all merits, which prompted the mythological deity to take his own life. In response, the Judge of the Underworld saw great potential in Zhong Kui and elevated him to the rank of King of Ghosts.
User reaction on social media was enthusiastic: some noted that without the prior release of Wukong, the public might have considered this trailer a fake, while others expressed admiration for the quality, noting that Game Science is creating masterpieces consecutively.
