Kasisile Sosibo demonstrated a significant recovery of form by taking third place in the Totalsports Women’s Race Joburg last Sunday. This result followed less than a day after she won the 10km championship among senior women at the Gauteng Cross-Country Central Championship.
Sosibo plans to continue her impressive 2026 season by participating in the Absa Run Your City Tshwane 10K race next Sunday. The 28-year-old athlete, representing the Boxer Athletics Club, is experiencing the best period of her career in the 10km distance.
In June, she improved her personal record to 32:16 as part of the Spar Women’s Grand Prix series, and last month she finished sixth at the Absa Run Your City Durban 10K race with a time of 32:36 in strong international competition. This result served as an additional stimulus as Sosibo continues to regain the form that allowed her to take tenth place in the 21km race at the World Road Running Championships in Riga in 2023, where she ran a personal best of 1:09:31.
Last week, she confirmed her consistency once again by finishing third with a time of 34:01 at the Totalsports Women’s Race Joburg, just under 24 hours after winning the Gauteng Cross-Country Central Championship among senior women.
Sosibo stated: 'Things are going well for me this year. I feel like the Kasisile who competed in 2023. I am returning slowly but surely.' The local resident of Gauteng, who currently lives in Soweto, believes that consistency in training under the guidance of legendary coach Michael 'The Sponge' Semenya has been key to her resurgence.
Currently, Sosibo aims to secure a spot in the top five at the Tshwane competition, although she recognizes that the course presents a different challenge compared to Durban. She noted: 'Tshwane is a more challenging course with altitude hills, so I do not expect a personal record. My goal is to run smartly and stay with the leading group for as long as possible.' Her ability to handle inclines may prove useful as she strives to turn her recent consistency into another outstanding result.
