Aditya Birla Capital Limited announced on Thursday that its Non-Banking Financial Company (NBFC) division is commencing operations in the gold loan sector. The company aims to open approximately 1000 branches across the country.
According to a filing with the exchange registry, the company's entry into the gold lending segment represents a strategic expansion of its secured lending portfolio. This complements the company's existing franchise in retail and SME lending, offering clients a transparent, flexible solution backed by collateral.
The company has planned the phased introduction of 200–300 specialized branches for gold loans by March 2027 in high-potential markets. Over the next three years, ABCL-NBFC intends to establish a network of around 1000 such branches, thereby strengthening its presence in India.
Aditya Birla Capital stated that the gold loan offering will combine service delivered through dedicated outlets with omni-channel digital interaction capabilities. This will ensure a seamless borrowing process for customers, supported by transparent pricing, secure handling of pledged gold, and fast loan disbursement.
Furthermore, the company specified that this offering will target both urban and semi-urban areas. It will serve existing clients within the Aditya Birla Capital ecosystem while expanding reach to new customers through an integrated distribution network comprising physical branches and digital platforms.
Rakesh Singh, Executive Director and CEO of Aditya Birla Capital's NBFC business, noted: 'Gold loans demonstrate strong structural growth in India, and our entry into this segment is a natural extension of our secured lending strategy.'
He added that they are building their gold loan business from scratch, guided by principles of strong governance, prudent risk management, operational excellence, and a customer-centric approach. 'As we expand our presence across India, we will leverage our extensive distribution network and digital capabilities to deliver an excellent customer experience.'
