During the rainy season, the number of cases of vomiting and diarrhea among children increases. This is due to the activation of various types of bacteria. Many parents tend to ignore vomiting and diarrhea as a common problem, but in some cases, such carelessness can lead to a serious deterioration in the child's condition.
The reason lies in the fact that water sources become contaminated during the rains, and increased humidity promotes the spread of bacteria, which raises the risk of gastrointestinal diseases during this period. The expert explained the signs that warrant concern.
Dr. Himanshu Bhadani from the pediatric department of AMS Delhi commented on the situation. He noted that consuming contaminated water, eating outside the home, and consuming unprocessed fruits and vegetables can lead to dangerous bacteria entering the stomach. Among these bacteria are rotavirus, E. coli, and Salmonella, which affect the intestines, causing vomiting or diarrhea.
Dr. Himanshu explained that in most cases, problems with vomiting and diarrhea in children pass within a few days, but there are situations when they can become critical.
It is necessary to monitor the following signs: frequent loose stools, constant vomiting, abdominal pain or spasms, fever, and general weakness.
According to Dr. Himanshu, in case of vomiting and diarrhea, the most important thing is to prevent dehydration of the child's body. For this, it is extremely necessary for the child to receive Rehydration Solutions (ORS) as recommended by a doctor and to avoid fluid deficiency in the body.
Alarming signals include no urination for three to four hours, absence of tears when crying, dryness in the mouth and on the lips, as well as continuous vomiting.
