Chen Yufei advances to the second round of the BWF World Championships

Chen Yufei from China managed to qualify for the women's singles tournament of the top 32 at the BWF World Championships in New Delhi on Tuesday, recovering after losing the first set. Simultaneously, two Chinese women's doubles pairs also advanced by winning their matches in two consecutive sets.

Chen, who was seeded fourth, faced Luo Xinyan (Happy Luo) from the Special Administrative Region of Hong Kong, China, in her opening match. She lost the first set but managed to turn the tide and win with a score of 18-21, 21-8, 21-11.

After the match, Chen noted that it was difficult for her to adapt to the conditions and her pace at the beginning of the match, but she found a more suitable rhythm in the second and third sets. She stated: 'I made some adjustments after the first set, for example, I started getting more excited and moving faster on the court.'

In her next match, Chen will face Polina Bukhrova from Ukraine, who advanced to the next stage by defeating Prakriti Bharat from the UAE with a score of 21-13, 20-22, 21-14.

In the women's doubles category, the defending champions, seed number one Liu Shenshu and Tan Ning, confidently started their campaign by defeating Pham Thi Dieu Lieu and Pham Thi Khanh from Vietnam with a score of 21-10, 21-11 in the round of 32.

The fourth seeds, Jia Yifan and Zhang Shuxian, also advanced without losing any sets, defeating Lui Lok Lok and Chan Xiu Yan from the Special Administrative Region of Hong Kong with a score of 21-13, 21-10.

China secured a spot in the men's doubles tournament of the top 16, as Hu Zeyuan and Lin Xiangyi were drawn against their compatriots Chen Boyang and Liu Yi. Hu and Lin, who replaced players at the last minute, managed to defeat the seventh seeds and the 2025 World Champion with a score of 21-18, 21-18.

While Hu and Lin continued their journey, Huang Di and Liu Yang could not join them in the eighth round because they were eliminated by the Malaysian team ranked 11th, consisting of Men Wei Chong and Tee Kai Wun, with a score of 21-14, 21-15.
