Nissan has implemented an update to the Sentra for the 2027 model year in the United States, introducing an unusual modification for such a short time: the recalibration of its CVT automatic transmission, responding to consumer requests. Furthermore, the mid-size sedan now offers the Midnight Edition visual package and an inductive charging pad compliant with the Qi2 standard, with starting prices from R$ 125 thousand (equivalent to $24,135).
According to the manufacturer, this new transmission programming aims to provide smoother operation, more linear acceleration, and a more defined response when pressing the accelerator. This adjustment is notable given that the ninth generation of the Sentra was only launched in the 2026 model year, and gearbox revisions usually await a mid-cycle restyling.
Under the hood, there have been no changes. The 2.0 naturally aspirated engine maintains its power output of 151 hp, and there are no plans for electrified variants to compete with models like the Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic, which already offer hybrid versions in the American market. In its most economical configuration, the Sentra achieves 12.8 km/l in the city and 16.2 km/l on the highway.
The Midnight Edition package, exclusive to the SR version, costs an additional R$ 3,360 ($650) and includes 18-inch alloy wheels with a specific design, two-tone paint, and a black rear spoiler. This is purely an aesthetic addition, without modifying the suspension or powertrain.
Regarding the Qi2 inductive charger, it offers greater compatibility and faster charging speed compared to the previous system. It comes standard on the SR and SL versions, and is optional on the SV. Price adjustments are subtle and varied: the base S model saw an increase of $290, while the SV rose by $220. The SR version, on the other hand, became $10 more affordable, and the top-of-the-line SL maintained last year's price. All these values already include the mandatory freight fee applied in the United States.
This update does not affect Brazilian consumers, as Nissan suspended the importation of the Sentra in July, confirming the end of the sedan's sale in the country. The last units from Mexico remain available at dealerships until stock runs out, and no replacement has been announced.
Commercial performance was the determining factor for this decision. According to Fenabrave, the Sentra registered only 341 sales in the first half of 2026, compared to 13,021 for the Corolla and 8,196 for the BYD King, its main direct competitors. In June, the number of registrations nationwide was only nine units. In Brazil, the model sold was the previous generation, which arrived in 2023 in Advance and Exclusive Premium versions, and never received the visual or content improvements applied abroad. The 151 hp 2.0 engine and the CVT transmission were the same, without the recalibration now announced for the American market.
