August featured the best works on the streaming platforms Prime Video, Mubi, and YouTube. Among them are a comedic detective film, a documentary about David Bowie, a classic comedy, and a music channel.
Chumbo Grosso (2007)
This film is available on Prime Video. The plot centers on Nicholas, a police officer so effective that he causes dissatisfaction among colleagues who work differently. To resolve this issue, his superior sends Nicholas from London to the English countryside. However, the disappointment from the tranquility of this place quickly vanishes when mysterious crimes begin to occur. It is an excellent police comedy by Edgar Wright (the author of the film Baby Driver).
Moonage Daydream (2022)
The documentary about David Bowie is hosted on Mubi. The film begins with a warning for people with photosensitive epilepsy. Through light flashes and other visual effects, it aims to move away from traditional interviews and voiceover narration of the genre. Through clips, testimonials, and live performances, the film creates an experience worthy of this musical genius.
Jovens, Loucos e Rebeldes (1993)
This film, available on Mubi, was created by director Richard Linklater (known for the films Boyhood and Escola de Rock). He drew inspiration from his own youth in Texas to create a comedy about the last day of college. The plot covers everything from an organized prank by upperclassmen in the morning to a party that livens up the entire city at night. A significant portion of the modest budget was spent on a soundtrack featuring 1970s hits.
My Analog Journal
YouTube hosts a channel dedicated to Japanese jazz, Taiwanese synth-pop, and Estonian disco music. This channel was created in 2017 by artist Zag Erlat, born in Istanbul. He invites DJs from around the world to play videos up to an hour long. The channel's goal is to introduce viewers to vinyl records containing lesser-known tracks and recordings. It can be confidently said that this is a series of true gems.
