The Chairman of the Oliy Majlis Senate, Tanzila Narbaeva, made a working trip to the Khorezm region to assess measures aimed at reducing unemployment and poverty levels, developing family entrepreneurship, and improving social services, according to local reports.
The visit focused on problem mahallas, specifically including an inspection of the 'Govuk' mahalla in the Khiv district and the 'Shikhmashhad' mahalla in the Koshkupyr district. The goal of the assessment was to determine how effectively local initiatives are creating sustainable sources of income to help families overcome poverty independently.
In the 'Govuk' mahalla, local efforts are directed towards expanding the production of handmade goods, including furniture, doors, and window frames. The idea of creating a specialized Crafts Center in this mahalla was presented to unite individual artisans into a cluster model, which would provide common infrastructure, cooperation, and broader market access.
In the 'Shikhmashhad' mahalla, over one hundred families are engaged in traditional wood carving and handicraft production, supplying products to local markets and the Karakalpakstan Republic. During the visit, officials reviewed projects that received support from preferential loans, including a local catering initiative opened by a former migrant worker after receiving a loan of 100 million sums.
During meetings with residents and community leaders, Narbaeva emphasized the need to combine economic support with accessible social, medical, and educational services. Responsible bodies were instructed to ensure the elimination of poverty and unemployment in the target mahallas by the end of the year, as well as to strengthen public and parliamentary oversight of the implementation of planned activities.
