CCPA fines Amazon 1 lakh rupees for misleading advertisements about Prasad from Shri Ram Mandir in Ayodhya Temple

The Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has imposed a fine of 1 lakh rupees on the major e-commerce player Amazon. The fine was issued because the platform allowed misleading advertisements and product listings where ordinary sweets were sold under the guise of 'Shri Ram Mandir Ayodhya Prasad.'

CCPA determined that no permission was obtained from the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Tirtha Kshetra Trust to sell laddu (sweets) as prasad. The products under review included ghee laddus, hooi laddus, ghee bondi laddus, and cow's milk peda, priced between 299 and 385 rupees.

The product descriptions utilized religious imagery and references to Lord Rama and Ayodhya, claiming that the products carried the 'Blessings of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple, Ayodhya.' Furthermore, the ingredient description on these product pages featured the phrase 'Ram Mandir Prasad.'
