If you love sweets and prefer to cook something new at home instead of buying ready-made products in the store, you can try Mysore Pak. This is a famous South Indian sweet dish. This article provides a simple instruction on how to prepare this dessert at home.
Whether you are celebrating or just marking a special moment, a celebration seems incomplete without sweets. A characteristic of Indian desserts is that each region has its own unique tastes and sweets. Mysore Pak is one such well-known dessert, which is particularly popular in South India. This dessert, made from lentil flour, ghee, and sugar, is distinguished by its exceptionally delicious taste. If you want to cook something unusual at home, this South Indian dessert can be the perfect choice.
To begin the cooking process, take a non-stick pan and lightly roast the lentil flour in it over medium heat. When the color of the flour changes slightly and a pleasant aroma appears, turn off the gas. It is important not to overcook the flour, otherwise, its taste may become bitter.
Next, heat the clarified butter (ghee) in another pan over medium heat. Also, prepare a tray or plate, greasing it with a small amount of ghee so that the finished mixture sets easily.
In a pot, bring about half a cup of water to a boil, adding sugar and milk. After the sugar is completely dissolved, let the syrup thicken slightly. Then, gradually pour in the roasted lentil flour, stirring constantly to avoid lumps.
Slowly pour the heated ghee into the mixture of lentil flour and syrup, stirring constantly after each addition. Bubbles will appear in the mixture when adding ghee, which is a sign that the dessert is starting to cook.
When all the ghee is completely mixed, add cardamom powder and stir. Continue cooking the mixture until it thickens and starts to separate from the sides of the pot.
Immediately pour the cooked mass onto the prepared tray and spread it evenly. Sprinkle chopped cashews, almonds, and pistachios on top, pressing them lightly. Let the mixture cool completely. After that, cut it with a knife into squares or any desired shape. Now your delicious Mysore Pak sweet is ready to eat, which can be served at festivals, worship, or any other ceremonial event.
