Security Guard Issued Tax Fine of 300 Million Rupees, Leading to Job Loss and Food Card Cancellation

Om Ji Shukla, a resident of Hanspuram in the Naubasta police station area of Kanpur, worked as a security guard for a security company, earning about 10 thousand rupees monthly, which was sufficient to support his family. However, the situation drastically changed after he received a notification from GST on September 21, 2025.

This notification mentioned commercial activity worth over 170 million rupees, and the GST Department demanded that Om Ji Shukla pay more than 300 million rupees in tax and provide an explanation. Shukla claimed that in his entire life, he had never seen 300 million or even 300 thousand rupees. Upon receiving information about multi-million rupee commercial activity and taxes, he panicked and began visiting various government offices seeking help.

Initially, Shukla approached the police, but he was advised to contact the GST Department. He then went with the leader of the trade community to the GST office, where he presented the notification and explained his situation. He was offered the chance to submit a response, but without relief there, he also wrote a letter to the GST headquarters in Delhi, yet the problem remained unresolved.

During constant visits to institutions and severe stress, he lost his job. Within about a year, his situation deteriorated to the point where he had no source of income. Shukla emphasizes that in GST records, he is listed as a large businessman, although in reality, he does not have enough funds to sustain himself.

The problems did not end after the notification. Reports indicate that his food card was cancelled, and many government benefits were also terminated. Shukla stated that due to the registration of multi-million rupee trade in his name, he can no longer receive financial assistance or loans. He insists on an investigation into this matter.

Om Ji Shukla reported that he had previously filed a complaint with former police commissioner Akhil Kumar, who ordered an investigation, but no concrete action was taken. Later, on Tuesday, he met with the current police commissioner Raghuvir Lal and tearfully recounted all his difficulties.

The police commissioner took the matter seriously and instructed the Naubasta police to register a complaint. Furthermore, it was directed that the entire case be investigated by the Criminal Department. The police will now investigate who used Shukla's documents and identity and how multi-million rupee trade was registered in his name.

Shukla claims that someone created a firm in his name and used his passport. He believes that a person who knew his personal information did this, and that he was unaware of the multi-million rupee trade being conducted in his name. Now, he hopes that the police investigation will reveal the truth.

Police Commissioner Subodh Kumar's staff officer reported that the security guard had been sent a GST notification for 300 million rupees. According to preliminary information, someone might have been conducting trade in his name using his passport and other documents. The police have registered a report and forwarded the case to the Criminal Department for investigation. The real situation will become clear after verification.

Meanwhile, the Trade Association raised questions about the working methods of GST employees. Representatives of the Trade Association believe that a check of the corresponding address and photograph is conducted before issuing a GST number. Therefore, they insist on finding out how the verification proceeded when the trade was registered in Shukla's name.

The Trade Association notes that Shukla is not a millionaire, nor even a multimillionaire in terms of income. The registration of multi-million rupee trade in such a person's name raises serious questions. The organization stated its intention to prepare a response on this matter and send it to the central GST department in Delhi to try and help Shukla.

The Criminal Department will now investigate the entire case. The police will determine who used Om Ji Shukla's documents, how the fake firm was created, and how trade worth over 170 million rupees was registered in his name. The possibility of negligence or irregularity at some level in the GST process will also be examined.

Currently, Shukla is struggling with an economic crisis and job loss. He claims that the burden of trade unrelated to him has been placed upon him. There is hope that the police investigation will clarify who used his name and documents for the alleged multi-million rupee trade and who was involved in it.
