According to a report by the Dunyo information agency, citing the Tourism Committee of Uzbekistan, Shakhrisabz has been awarded the international status of World Craft City for embroidery in 2026.
This was announced during the closing of the international embroidery festival 'Iroqi,' which was held in the city. The President of the World Council of Crafts AISBL (International), Saad Al-Qaddumi, officially announced the awarding of this title and presented the certificate confirming the new status to the Hokim of Shakhrisabz, Sherzod Buriev.
The granting of this status reflects the international recognition of the centuries-old traditions of craftsmanship in Shakhrisabz, centered on the national art of 'Iroqi' embroidery. The new status is intended to strengthen Shakhrisabz's position in preserving craft products and protecting cultural heritage, promoting traditional crafts and supporting local artisans.
Furthermore, this international recognition aims to enhance the city's tourism potential and present Shakhrisabz on the international stage as a destination for cultural and craft tourism.
