209 thousand applicants recommended for university admission in Uzbekistan after 2026 exams

Following the 2026 entrance exams in Uzbekistan, 209,000 applicants were recommended for enrollment in higher education institutions. Meanwhile, 37.54% of participants failed to reach the minimum threshold of 56.7 points.

Announcement of Results and Statistics

These data were presented by the First Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, Sardor Rajabov, during a press conference held in Tashkent on August 18, 2026. In total, 677,900 applicants registered online to participate in the bachelor's degree admission testing. The exams took place in 64 major locations equipped with video surveillance systems and were broadcast online.

Over 389,000 applicants scored above the established threshold of 56.7 points, allowing them to pass the competitive selection. Of the 209,000 people recommended for admission, 52,800 received state grants, and 156,300 were enrolled on a paid contract basis.

Quotas and Study Priorities

The total quota for bachelor's degrees in 2026 was 201,700 places, which is 6,400 more than in 2025. Rajabov noted a significant expansion of places for full-time study, with the number of state grant places exceeding 36,000. The quota structure was determined based on labor market needs, priority educational disciplines, and university capacity, with a special focus on information technology and artificial intelligence.

Tashkent State Economic University, State University of World Languages, and the National University of Uzbekistan generated the most interest among applicants. Medicine, economics, philology, and English language teaching were the most in-demand fields, alongside growing demand for modern technological specialties.

Academic Performance Dynamics

Average scores showed an upward trend across all categories. For state-funded places, the average score increased to 134.6 points compared to 121.8 points in 2025. For contract admissions, the average score rose to 93.7 points from 84.9 points last year. Additionally, 20,500 applicants were accepted under special quotas stipulated by law.

The proportion of applicants who did not meet the minimum threshold continued to decrease, reaching 37.54% (230,935 people) in 2026. This is an improvement compared to the figures of 41.9% in 2025, 43% in 2024, and 46% in 2023. Applicants who did not pass the selection were advised to consider options for studying at technical colleges under vocational education programs or enroll in private higher education institutions. An additional selection stage is also planned to fill remaining vacant places, which will allow applicants to apply if their test results match available programs.
